How Aside works: a disposable camera on every guest's phone

Remember the disposable cameras on every table at a wedding? Everyone took a few shots, nobody saw anything, and a week later the photos turned out better than anyone expected. Aside brings that back, without the cameras.

One code, every guest

The host creates an event in the Aside app and prints a QR code for the tables. Guests scan it with their phone camera. On an iPhone the camera opens as an App Clip; on Android and everything else it opens in the browser. There's nothing to install and no account to create: guests type their name and start shooting.

Limited shots, a film look

Each guest gets a set number of shots, chosen by the host. Every photo gets a film look on the phone itself: grain, a soft vignette and a warm glow around highlights. After the shutter clicks, the photo disappears into the "developing" stack. Nobody can scroll back, retake or filter.

The reveal

The photos stay hidden until the time the host picked: right away, at the end of the evening, or the next morning over coffee. Then the whole album develops at once, and everyone can see the night through each other's eyes.

Private, and nothing gets lost

Photos are saved on the phone first and upload when the connection allows, so a crowded venue Wi-Fi never costs a shot. Location data is removed from every photo before it leaves the phone, and only people with the event's link can open the album.
